To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. Ralph Waldo EmersonThese days, the phrases 'be yourself' or 'be authentic' are thrown around so carelessly, that I'm not surprised at the amount of people who feel frustrated around the whole subject. What makes it even worse, is that when people say be yourself, it is almost always accompanied with the word 'just' Just. "Just be yourself!" They say nonchalantly. The difficulty of being authentic gets lost in translation. It would be nice to live in a world where being yourself is like breathing, but that's not where we live. You see on earth, we are trained to be good humans. We were all ourselves once, but being told no thousands of times beat it right out of many of us by middle school if we were lucky to keep it that long. Now I'm going to contradict myself. Being authentic, letting yourself be who you truly are is an innate ability that we all have. While it is not the easiest part of life to access, it is relatively simple only one condition: If you're willing. You have to be willing to listen to your voice and stop blaming yourself for your unhappiness, for your laziness and for your lack of enthusiasm. Those emotions and actually all emotions are our inner selves (I like to call it intuition) are trying to speak to us. If you have trouble making yourself do a certain thing, something is out of line. There are things that all of us can't get enough of. If we'd all do those things more often, well let's just say we'd live in a much happier place! So here are 5 promised tips to help anyone be a little more authentic! 1. Stop judging yourself. For just a moment, stop. Take a breath, and let your thoughts come and go as you breathe. None of these thoughts are good or bad. None of these thoughts define you. They just are. Spend more time in that space. 2. Fix your relationship with failure. Failure is an inevitability in the life of anyone who moves past the status quo. If someone seems to have it all together, they are really good at keeping their mistakes private. No one has it together. No one feels like an adult and no one knows everything. You're in good company. We're all failures! 3. Journal. Spend some time asking yourself questions and journaling from within. Everyone has a wise voice inside. That is your intuition. Listen to him or her. All of your answers are there. Everyone doesn't know this, but life is an open book test. Your intuition has all the answers. 4. Face your fears. They really do get smaller and weaker when knocked off of their pedestal. Laugh at them, they are just bullies. They lose their power when you stop believing them. 5. Face your dreams! As Marianne Williamson famously says, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." We are not weak. Years and years of evolving has made sure of that. You know that you are a member of the smartest cohort of humans. Do you no matter who you are, that you can do things today that the ultra rich, heck even royalty only 100 years ago couldn't even dream of. You're extremely privileged. You are also extremely gifted and you know it. Don't be afraid to face your dreams. They're in your head for a reason. So, yeah. Do the world a favor and let us know who you truly are. Bring to the table your true strengths because you will be astonished what comes out when you let it. With so much love, Keyara Life Coach and blogger at www.awakeningyourlight.com
